Town have copped a suspended £2,000 fine and Jonty Gorley's two-match touchline ban has kicked in over August's row with a match doctor. Better news: Tanna Featherstone's re-signed and an Aussie half-back is on his way.

This one's for Town fans keeping tabs on things over the winter.

The RFL said on Friday that Workington Town and Jonty Gorley, head coach at the time, have accepted sanctions over how they treated the match doctor at Midlands Hurricanes back on 9 August. The doctor had pulled Tanna Featherstone off after deciding he had Category 1 concussion symptoms, and it didn't go down well.

The RFL said Town and Gorley "accepted that their conduct towards the doctor fell below the standards expected, both during the match and, in Gorley's case, in a post-match interview."

The club's been fined £2,000, but it's suspended till the end of 2028. Gorley's old suspended two-match touchline ban and £500 fine have now kicked in, and he's got another £1,000 fine and a four-match stadium ban, both suspended till the end of 2028. Cumbria Crack says the touchline ban covers the first two games of 2027, and Gorley's moved into a head of rugby job, not coaching. Brad Singleton's the new head coach.

Same day, the club said Featherstone's signed on for 2027. He came in at the end of May and got two tries in 10 games. Singleton said: "He might not be the biggest player on the field, but he plays with hunger and aggression."

Featherstone said: "I'm extremely proud and honoured to re-sign with Workington Town for the 2027 season."

And on Sunday, the Crack said Australian half-back Corey Herdegen, 25, from Wollongong, has signed as number 15 in the squad and should be over next month.

The RFL has given Workington Town a £2,000 fine, suspended until the end of 2028, and activated a two-match touchline ban for Jonty Gorley over conduct towards a match doctor in August. Winger Tanna Featherstone and half-back Corey Herdegen are in the 2027 squad.

This is for Workington Town supporters keeping track of the club over the off-season.

The Rugby Football League announced on Friday 23 October that Workington Town and Jonty Gorley, who was head coach at the time, had accepted sanctions over their conduct towards the match doctor at the Championship game against Midlands Hurricanes at Avery Fields on 9 August. The doctor had taken winger Tanna Featherstone off the field after judging he showed Category 1 concussion symptoms.

The RFL said Workington and Gorley "accepted that their conduct towards the doctor fell below the standards expected, both during the match and, in Gorley's case, in a post-match interview."

The club has been fined £2,000, suspended until the end of the 2028 season. Gorley's previously suspended two-match touchline ban and £500 fine have been activated, and he has an extra £1,000 fine and a four-match stadium ban, both suspended until the end of 2028. Cumbria Crack reports that the touchline ban covers Town's first two matches of 2027, and that Gorley has moved into a non-coaching head of rugby role. Brad Singleton is the new head coach.

On the same day, the club confirmed Featherstone has re-signed for 2027. He joined in late May and scored two tries in 10 appearances. Singleton said: "He might not be the biggest player on the field, but he plays with hunger and aggression."

Featherstone said: "I'm extremely proud and honoured to re-sign with Workington Town for the 2027 season."

On Sunday, Cumbria Crack reported that Australian half-back Corey Herdegen, 25, from Wollongong, has signed as the 15th member of the squad and is expected to arrive next month.
