The old cinema on Senhouse Street starts opening in September. Seven offices from £344 a month, gigs later on. Ring Maryport Horizons if you want a look.
The old cinema on Senhouse Street is coming back. The Carlton in Maryport starts opening to the public from September — events and a performance space downstairs, offices and workshops upstairs. Gigs are being lined up for later in the year.
It's part of the council's £12 million job on the town. The cinema and the derelict building next door have been knocked into one venue. Maryport Horizons, a local CIC, will run it for the council. The money is from the council, government and Sellafield, who put in £400,000 through their social impact programme.
If you need a desk, there are seven offices on the first floor, 11 to 26 square metres, unfurnished, rolling monthly, from £344 including the service charge. Shared kitchen and co-working space, lifts, fully accessible.
Fryer called it a boost for Maryport. Catherine Eve at Horizons says decent office space for small firms has been thin on the ground here, and the idea is folk who rent will spend in the town as well. The former cinema on Senhouse Street will begin opening to the public from September 2026, with seven first-floor offices to rent from £344 a month. Performances are planned later in the year.
The Carlton on Senhouse Street in Maryport is due to open to the public from September 2026 as an entertainment and events venue, with office and workshop space also available to rent.
The former cinema, and a once-derelict building next door, have been rebuilt as part of Cumberland Council's £12 million regeneration of the town. Funding came from the council, central government and Sellafield Ltd, which invested £400,000 through its Social Impact Multiplied (SIX) programme. There is a performance space on the ground floor and business accommodation above. Maryport Horizons Community Interest Company will run the building for the council. Performances are being planned for later in the year.
Seven fully accessible offices on the first floor are now being advertised, from 11sqm to 26sqm. They are unfurnished, on a rolling monthly contract, and tenants share a communal kitchen and co-working space. Rent starts at £344 a month, including service charges. The building is wheelchair accessible, with lifts to all floors.
Council leader Councillor Mark Fryer said completion of The Carlton would give "a great boost to the Maryport economy" and be an asset to Cumberland. Tracey West, Sellafield Ltd's head of social impact, said the £400,000 was about supporting regeneration, local enterprise and bringing a community asset back to life. Catherine Eve, director of Maryport Horizons, said there was "a definite shortage of quality office accommodation for small businesses in Maryport", and that attracting tenants who then spend in the town is the point of this part of the project.
