Workington Road Closures Have Shifted — Here's the Updated List Workington Roadworks: Revised Closures from 21 August

The Workington road dates have moved again after the weather. Washington Street, Hall Park View, the A66 at Stainburn, Harrington Road gas works — the useful list is below.
If you drive in Workington, the dates have moved. Bad weather knocked the Gateway job about, so the council has put out a fresh list. They're leaving the bank holiday weekend alone, at least.
Washington Street gets another overnight shutdown from 7pm Friday 21 August to 6am Saturday, then markings later that week, and signal loops in mid-September. Hall Park View shuts the weekend of 12–13 September; Hall Brow the weekend after that, 19–20 September.
Stainburn is the long one. Active Travel starts 1 September and they're talking Christmas. National Highways will have the A66 and the roundabout at weekends through August and September — Friday night to Monday morning, several weeks on the trot.
Harrington Road is gas pipes, not the council: Northern Gas Networks, due done by the end of August, 0800 040 7766 if you need them. Central Way lights from 7 September, and a five-day resurfacing hit from 19 October. High Harrington footbridge after that — eight to ten weeks.
It's a lot of yellow signs. Check the council page before you set off.
Cumberland Council has revised Workington Gateway and A66 dates after bad weather — Washington Street, Hall Park View, Hall Brow, Stainburn, Harrington Road and Central Way.
Cumberland Council has issued an updated list of Workington road closures and traffic management for the Gateway project and other highway schemes. Some dates have changed after recent bad weather. No works are planned over the August bank holiday weekend.
On the A596, Washington Street needs an extra overnight resurfacing closure from 7pm on Friday 21 August to 6am on Saturday 22 August. Road markings and traffic-counter loops are then due from 7pm on Wednesday 26 August to 6am on Friday 28 August, and traffic-signal loops from Monday 14 September to 6am on Wednesday 16 September.
Hall Park View (Cumbria Police HQ to Calva Brow roundabout) is due to close from 6am on Saturday 12 September to 9pm on Sunday 13 September for resurfacing and markings. Hall Brow (M&S junction to Police HQ) follows from 6am on Saturday 19 September to 9pm on Sunday 20 September.
The A66 Active Travel scheme on Stainburn Road is due to start on Tuesday 1 September and run to Christmas, with temporary signals on weekdays. National Highways will resurface Stainburn Road and Stainburn roundabout over weekend closures, coordinated with that scheme: 21–24 August, then 4–7, 11–14, 18–21 and 25–28 September, typically 6.30pm Friday to 6am Monday.
Northern Gas Networks is replacing old metal gas pipes on Harrington Road. A closure and diversion are in place, with work expected to finish by the end of August. Their customer line is 0800 040 7766.
Central Way active-travel work is due from Monday 7 September, with temporary lights, and a five-day resurfacing closure from Monday 19 October — more detail to follow. After Hall Park View and Hall Brow, Bridge Street footbridge in High Harrington is expected to take eight to ten weeks under temporary lights.
