A builder wants to put 51 houses and bungalows on the Flosh Meadows land in Cleator, where 47 homes across three schemes had already been given the nod.

This one's for folk in Cleator and Cleator Moor, and anybody hoping to buy or build round there.

Thomas Armstrong Construction Ltd has put plans in to Cumberland Council for 51 houses and bungalows on farmland at Flosh Meadows, Cleator, the News & Star says. The 3.3-hectare site joins up three plots that have already got permission for 47 homes between them.

Those were 21 self-build homes, passed in November 2024, plus 19 at Mid Meadows and seven at Top Meadows. The builder reckons all three permissions still stand.

The new plan has two two-bed homes, 18 three-beds, 22 four-beds and nine five-beds. Two would be sold at a discount, as an existing planning agreement says, and the rest would go on the open market.

The design statement, written by Green Swallow North, says: "This application combines all three parcels of land included within these consents and is presented as single application." It calls the plan "market led housing for sale".

That's a change from the self-build idea. When the self-build homes got the go-ahead, the council's own housing team backed them, saying plenty of local people were keen to build their own.

Now it goes through the council's planning process, and there'll be a chance for people to have their say before anyone decides.

What you can do: if you want to back it or object, look it up on Cumberland Council's planning portal by searching for Flosh Meadows, Cleator, and get your comments in before the consultation shuts.

Thomas Armstrong Construction Ltd has applied to build 51 houses and bungalows at Flosh Meadows, Cleator, on land where three schemes totalling 47 homes were already approved.

This is for people living in Cleator and Cleator Moor, and for anyone hoping to buy or build a home in the area.

Thomas Armstrong Construction Ltd has submitted plans to Cumberland Council for 51 houses and bungalows on farmland at Flosh Meadows, Cleator, the News & Star reports. The 3.3-hectare site brings together three plots that already have planning permission for a total of 47 homes.

Those earlier permissions were for 21 self-build homes, approved in November 2024, plus 19 homes at Mid Meadows and seven at Top Meadows. The applicant believes all three consents are still valid.

The new scheme would have two two-bedroom homes, 18 with three bedrooms, 22 with four bedrooms and nine with five bedrooms. Two would be sold at a discount, in line with an existing planning agreement, and the rest would be for sale on the open market.

The design statement, prepared by Green Swallow North, says: "This application combines all three parcels of land included within these consents and is presented as single application." It describes the plan as "market led housing for sale".

That marks a change from the self-build idea. When the self-build homes were approved, the council's strategic housing team backed them, pointing to significant local interest in people building their own homes.

The application will now go through the council's planning process, which includes a period for public comments before a decision is made.

What you can do: if you want to support or object, find the application on Cumberland Council's planning portal by searching for Flosh Meadows, Cleator, and send your comments before the consultation closes.
