The amber wind warning stays on till 9pm tonight after a night of trees down and water on the roads. Trains are still a mess, and there's another yellow warning for Tuesday.

This one's for anybody who has to get about today, anybody living near the front, and anybody with plans for Tuesday.

The Met Office amber wind warning for Cumbria is on until 9pm tonight. Cumbria Police said first thing this morning they'd had a fair few calls overnight about water on the roads and trees down blocking them, all over the county, so take it steady if you're driving.

Down the coast, the Environment Agency put flood warnings out for Saturday night's high tide from Silloth to St Bees, taking in Allonby, Maryport, Flimby, Workington, Parton and Whitehaven, and shut the flood gates at Maryport and Flimby. They said they'd update those warnings by 9am today.

Trains are still in bits. Northern shut the coast line between Carlisle and Whitehaven from half six last night. In the early hours, National Rail Enquiries said Northern would be disrupted until Monday and they'd say later what's running today. Avanti is telling people not to go north of Penrith today.

And it's not finished. The Met Office has put a yellow wind warning out for Cumbria from 3am to just before midnight on Tuesday. They reckon gusts of 50 to 60mph quite widely and 70mph or more on some coasts and high spots, though they admit they're not sure yet exactly where the worst will hit.

What you can do: check National Rail Enquiries before you go for a train today or tomorrow. Stay off the front and away from the harbours while the waves are coming over. If your power's off, ring 105, and check flood warnings on GOV.UK or ring Floodline on 0345 988 1188. Maryport Rescue has a few flood sacks, but only ask if water's actually coming in or about to.

The Met Office amber wind warning for Cumbria lasts until 9pm on Sunday 25 October after a night of fallen trees and local flooding. Rail services are still disrupted, and a new yellow wind warning covers Tuesday 27 October.

This is for anyone in West Cumbria who needs to travel today, lives near the sea front, or has plans for Tuesday.

The Met Office amber warning for wind across Cumbria stays in place until 9pm tonight, Sunday 25 October. Cumbria Police said early this morning that it had taken a number of calls overnight about localised flooding and fallen trees blocking roads across the county, and asked people to drive with care.

On the coast, the Environment Agency issued flood warnings for Saturday night's high tide from Silloth to St Bees, covering Allonby, Maryport, Flimby, Workington, Parton and Whitehaven, and closed flood gates at Maryport and Flimby. It said it would update those warnings by 9am today.

Trains are still disrupted. Northern shut the Cumbrian Coast line between Carlisle and Whitehaven from 6.30pm on Saturday. In the early hours of today, National Rail Enquiries said disruption to Northern services would last until Monday 26 October and that details for today were still to come. Avanti West Coast has told people not to travel north of Penrith today.

The Met Office has also issued a new yellow wind warning for Cumbria from 3am to 11.59pm on Tuesday 27 October. It says gusts of 50 to 60mph are possible quite widely, with 70mph or more on some coasts and exposed spots, but that there is some uncertainty about where the strongest gusts will be.

What you can do: check National Rail Enquiries before any train journey today and tomorrow. Keep away from sea fronts and harbours while waves are coming over. Report a power cut on 105 and check flood warnings on GOV.UK or with Floodline on 0345 988 1188. Maryport Rescue has a small number of flood sacks and asks people to request them only where flooding is happening or imminent.
